So, what does DPF mean? Well, DPF stands for Diesel Particulate Filter. They are fitted only in diesel cars and were introduced in 2007 to prevent soot, or particulate matter (PM), given its correct name, from entering the atmosphere.
It does this by trapping and separating the soot/PM from the exhaust gasses whilst letting the rest of the gasses flow through the system and out the back of the car.
DPF's only have a limited capacity, this soot trapped, by the DPF, periodically has to be emptied or 'burned off' to regenerate the DPF.
If regeneration doesn’t function properly it leads to a build-up of soot affecting performance and fuel economy. Left unattended this will result in a blocked DPF, which can ultimately cause very expensive damage to other engine components.
The main reasons for DPF's becoming blocked is short journeys. If you only drive around town and rarely on a motorway, you will find your DPF blocking up quicker than it should.
If your DPF or Anti-Pollution light appears, seek professional advice immediately. Please do not ignore it!
Just taking your car for a "blast down the motorway" or a basic forced regeneration by a garage is not likely to cure the problem.
We offer a DPF cleaning service which is one of the best options without replacing or removing your DPF, but if the DPF is damaged internally then a clean will not solve the issue.
For more information on our DPF cleaning service please click here.
If the DPF clean does not work and your DPF is damaged you only have 2 viable options.
One is to replace the DPF with a Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or the other option is to have it removed physically and have our solution software applied.
Our DPF Removal and Delete Service is intended for off-road use vehicles only. We take no responsibility of consequences from you using your vehicle on the road once we remove the DPF. Removal of a DPF is likely to make your vehicle illegal for use on a public road. This is not legal advice and if you are unsure if this applies to your vehicle, please seek further advice.
